On one of Jon Hamblin’s paintings in WCC’s Gallery Iolani is the quote, “O, YES! THE FIRE OF LIFE BURNING INSIDE US.”
It’s a quote that not only describes the painting but the colorful, dynamic and lively art that is part of the gallery exhibit, “Taking Flight,” which features Hamblin’s paintings as well as the work of seasoned popular artist Jodi Endicott and young newcomer Sarah Hyland.
While Hamblin paints the human experience, often combined with a slice of life and humor, Hyland illustrates images of her creative mind in paintings and journal entries.
Endicott works in found materials, sculpture and painting.
“There’s so much to look at in this show,” said gallery director Toni Martin.
The exhibit is just the latest in Gallery ‘Iolani’s 25 years of exhibitions at Windward Community College. “Taking Flight” is on display through Feb. 25.
The gallery is located adjacent to Palikū Theatre and is open 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and Sunday. It is closed Saturdays and state holidays.
