What do you think about the State, UH and DOE budget deficit?

Cutting educational programs is not the way to solve our debt woes. I’d rather see a reduction in social programs and environmental work. Ultimately, if we reduce the quality of our children’s education, we are mortgaging their future with a sub-prime loan. Meaning, it looks good now, but sooner or later it will come back to bite us.

– Alex Bocchieri

The state should leave the DOE alone and find alternative solutions elsewhere. We are talking about education, and the education for our future leaders. Why should we jeopardize that to save some money? Instead of cutting back or raising taxes, let’s find a way to make money, like, for instance, building a casino in Hawai‘i or make a Hawai‘i state lottery.

– Jason Wood

I think the state should raise taxes. We spend our weekends at Wal-Mart throwing money away that could be put to better use in our education system. Cut back grounds maintenance employees on the sides of the highways. Grass and trees are the least of my worries. Have police start ticketing modified vehicles on the road. They’re supposed to be doing that anyway.
