What is Title IX?
Have you heard of Title IX? If you have, do you really know what it is?
This semester, we will be sharing with you what it is and what it covers. Basically, Title IX protects all individuals on educational campuses that receive federal funding (such as federal financial aid for students and federal grants to run programs like TRiO).
In short, the education amendment states: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”
Stay tuned to learn more through the semester about how this law protects you and your rights.
The Title IX coordinator for WCC is Brian Pactol, vice chancellor for administrative services. He can be reached at wcctix@hawaii.edu.
