The recently released iPhone Xs and Xs Max are the newest product offerings by Apple, and figuring out if they are right for you can be a tough decision.
With the iPhone X previously being the most recent release, these newer S models are basically upgrades. Upgrades to the hardware and software were made as well as upgrades to price.
The Xs Max (starting at $1,099) is the largest phone yet with a screen size of 6.5 inches.
With these new iPhones, those measurements are from edge to edge, meaning the entire frontside is the screen display.
According to Apple’s press release, the 5.8-inch iPhone Xs (starting at $999) and Xs Max feature Super Retina displays, a faster and improved dual camera system, and the A12 Bionic chip.
This new, tinier 7-nanometer processor chip allows the fastest transitioning between cycling through applications ever. It also consumes up to half the amount of battery power as the previous iPhone.
The new line-up of phones also offers faster Face ID, the newest way to unlock your phone using the front camera to scan and recognize your face instead of using a physical home button.
“iPhone Xs Max offers the biggest display ever in an iPhone with the biggest battery ever in an iPhone, delivering up to an hour and a half more battery life in your day,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, in the press release.
Every new piece of technology, however, brings with it reviews, feedback and criticism. Samsung and Android phones are often ahead of the curve when it comes to fitting more technology into their phones.
Many tech websites such as CNET.com have already posted videos and articles with the basic pros and cons of Apple’s new products, as well as reasons to purchase or not.
No 5G capabilities, high price, and the lack of overall change are arguments against them. More storage options, new finishes, new colors and new camera tricks are all reasons CNET argues in favor of the new phones. The choice still lies with the consumer.
“I just got this iPhone X, and it’s awesome,” said Jewels Ross, a UH West O‘ahu student and iPhone X owner. “Just because the next model came out, I don’t think I’ll upgrade so soon, especially because of the price.”
“I didn’t even bother to think they would most likely be releasing an updated version of the phone I just bought, and it honestly looks way better,” said Tara Foster, another iPhone X owner.
On Oct. 26, Apple will release the iPhone Xr, the most affordable option of the new product line-up. CNET boldly states that this is the one to wait for.
The phone comes in different colors and basically has the same internal hardware and software. With a starting price of $749 and only minor compromises to its camera specs, the iPhone Xr is sure to sell.
