WCC’s Pueo Press is thrilled to announce that the American Scholastic Press Association (ASPA) recently awarded the Pueo Literary and Art Journal’s 2018 True Story issue a first place award in its annual national contest. In addition, ASPA honored WCC student Garrett Brixon with an Outstanding Story award for his story, “The Ride.” CM/ENG 280 students Aspen Morgan, Dani Horner, Adam Almeida and Sonny Freitas, in association with Pueo Press adviser Desi Poteet, created the issue.
The Pueo Press staff is currently working to complete production of several books this year, including the 2019 Prism issue of Pueo (formerly called the Busted issue).
“We’re going to throw a massive, mega, multi-book launch party,” said current Pueo Press adviser and founder Robert Barclay.
When asked for details, he said more information on the books and the party will be forthcoming and, “We’ve already hired the fire dancers, if that gives you an idea of what to expect.”
He added, “There’s nothing like Pueo Press in the entire UH community college system, a press that publishes books by students, faculty and staff, and we’re very proud of that—especially with the quality of books that we’ve been fortunate to publish.”
Story, poetry, essay and artwork entries are now being accepted through Oct. 31 for the 2020 Boom Kanani! issue of Pueo, with entry forms and boxes available in the Mānaleo lobby, the bookstore, the library and outside the Pueo Press studio in ʻĀkoakoa 236. Get published!
