Upcoming campus events
We are back in full swing for the Fall 2019 semester, and there are lots of new things happening around campus.
Your Title IX office, in collaboration with your mental health and wellness counselor Desrae Kahale and your campus DVAC advocate Chelsey Stewart, bring you Monday Mana`o. Every other Monday at 10:30 a.m., we will gather at The Hub for a talk story time.
This is meant to be a safe space for students to ask questions, share their thoughts on different topics and to connect with their fellow students. Topics covered will be Maunakea, Social Connections Today and Stress Management. The dates are: Oct. 21, Nov. 4 and 18, and Dec. 2.
The month of October also brings different events to our campus. On Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. and Oct. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in LLC 304 (Library Conference Room), the film Leitis In Waiting will be shown, wrapping up the celebration of Honolulu Pride® 2019.
The film explores the Tongan leitis, transgender women, fighting the tradition of Christian fundamentalism and intolerance infusing its way into society by pushing for acceptance without giving up who they are.
Coming up in November will be the results of your student feedback in the 2019 Climate Survey.
The survey’s purpose was to allow an opportunity for students to share their experiences with sexual harassment and gender-based violence on our campuses in a confidential manner.
This survey helps us learn what students are facing and how best to support them while ensuring a safe learning and working environment.
Once the survey is released, your Title IX office will hold small Q&A sessions to discuss the results and answer any questions students may have. Keep an eye out for campus flyers and on WCC social media for those dates.
